The Ghana Football Association鈥檚 Club Licensing Manager, Esme Mends, has shed light on the updated licensing regulations ahead of the 2025/26 football season, urging clubs to adhere to new standards aimed at improving the matchday experience and television appeal.
Speaking in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, Mends revealed that the GFA has already communicated the new requirements to clubs a month ago, giving them ample time to prepare.
鈥淲e made changes regarding licensing regulations and we have informed the clubs. We have also given them enough time to prepare. I sent everything to them about a month ago,鈥 Mends explained.
He mentioned that the key changes include improvements to stadium surroundings, with a focus on visual aesthetics for broadcasting.
鈥淪ome spectator stands are bushy. So we want the clubs to either erect proper stands or clear the area so it will look good on TV.鈥
He also emphasized on enhancing stadium facilities and ensuring order during games.
鈥淰IP, VVIP lounges, and no hawkers allowed are the things we have communicated to them.鈥
Mends acknowledged the financial challenges many clubs are currently facing, which could hinder compliance in some areas.
鈥淐lub licensing is about money, and unfortunately, we are at a point where clubs are facing financial difficulties. So if they don鈥檛 have it, they don鈥檛 have it.鈥
The Club Licensing鈥檚 new requirements align with the GFA鈥檚 commitment to raising the standards of local football infrastructure, ensuring both players and fans enjoy a professional and appealing matchday environment.
