Geordie Shore star makes candid admission as he opens up in heartbreaking new documentary

Geordie Shore鈥檚 Nathan Henry has given fans a raw insight into his personal life in a moving new documentary, Geordie Stories: Nathan and Dad.

The reality star, 34, invites viewers into a deeply personal journey with his father Glen, who is living with terminal cancer.

The four-part series will see Nathan and Glen let the cameras into their homes as they adjust to their new reality of doctors appointments as well as support groups.

The father-son duo will also take on an emotional trip to Glen鈥檚 birthplace, Jamaica, as they reconnect with family roots and open up about masculinity, illness and LGBTQ+ acceptance in Caribbean culture.

Nathan admitted that working on the show with his dad was the 鈥榖est therapy鈥 as he said it helped the pair 鈥渁dapt and deal鈥 with Glen’s diagnosis.

鈥淚n a weird way it鈥檚 been the best therapy and I鈥檝e had an experience that money can鈥檛 buy.鈥 he said in an exclusive interview with OK!. 鈥淚鈥檝e gone from being scared of death to not being able to say the word cancer and if anyone asked me about my dad I couldn鈥檛 bring myself to talk about it.

鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 in the space where I could hold that conversation until now – four months down the line being able to sit in front of you and talk about it.鈥

He added: 鈥淏eing able to give people advice has completely changed my perspective and mindset. It鈥檚 helped both me and my dad and it鈥檚 given us a better outlook on life and how to adapt and deal with that.鈥

While Nathan hasn鈥檛 shied away from showing his authentic self on Geordie Shore over the years, this documentary offers a version of him that people don’t always get to see.

Nathan admitted: 鈥淭his is the most emotional I have ever been on any show that I have ever done and probably the most honest I have ever been in terms of what鈥檚 happening in my life and giving people an insight into that side of my life.鈥

The star continued: 鈥淲hen you think of people on TV that have a relative that have cancer, instantly everyone reaction is 鈥榓w they鈥檝e got money, they鈥檒l get cured鈥 but no I鈥檓 not ridiculously loaded, my dad is getting treatment on the NHS because he鈥檚 a normal person just like I鈥檓 just a normal person and I want to show people the reality of that.鈥

For Nathan, it was seeing his dad cry that made him question if he was doing the right thing documenting such a vulnerable moment.

Opening up on the emotional moment, Nathan explained: 鈥淭here was a moment I asked him a question about his diagnosis and him reliving that moment, he started crying and I鈥檝e never seen my dad cry in my entire life and I didn鈥檛 know what to do.鈥

He continued: 鈥淥ff camera I asked if he wanted to stop filming and he said no. I went home and thought 鈥榓m I doing the right thing here鈥 because if he is getting emotional doing it then I鈥檓 going to have to get emotional.鈥

The star added: 鈥淚 thought are we both in the right head space but as time went on all that disappeared and I thought you know what If I鈥檓 going to do this I鈥檝e got to be brutally honest.

鈥淎nd it鈥檚 got to be raw and very real so people can resonate with it. It can鈥檛 be produced or glamorous, it’s got to be the realest thing I have ever done.鈥

Episode 1 of Geordie Stories: Nathan and Dad launches on the Thursday July 3, with a new episode every week on MTV Shores YouTube channel.
