Joining forces in 2015, with a shared vision that would change the way travellers explore the world, G Adventures and National Geographic Expeditions celebrate 10 years of adventures together. Today, the travel providers are delighted to announce ten more years of innovation and connecting travellers to people and the planet in a meaningful and impactful way through National Geographic Journeys and National Geographic Family Journeys product lines. National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures and National Geographic Family Journeys have changed the lives of thousands of travellers, supported 25 social enterprise projects and uplifted over 50,000 local people around the world through community tourism initiatives.
鈥淭his is an exciting time for G Adventures, as we celebrate 10 years of incredibly successful collaboration with our friends at National Geographic Expeditions. What started as a shared vision and an opportunity in the group travel market, has grown into a collection of truly life changing experiences, whose positive ripple effects can be felt by local people, wildlife and destinations all around the world. Demand for these types of experiences is growing; since embarking on this journey with National Geographic Expeditions, we鈥檝e seen exceptional growth every year, as travellers look to go deeper into destinations, make real human connections and make more thoughtful and intentional choices about where they spend their travel dollars,鈥 says Ben Perlo, chief executive officer at G Adventures.
鈥淣ational Geographic Expeditions鈥 core belief is the importance of exploration, and we strive to create unique and authentic expeditions that inspire travellers to care about the world around them,鈥 said Nancy Schumacher, senior vice president and general manager, National Geographic Expeditions. 鈥淲e are incredibly proud of the unforgettable National Geographic Journeys and National Geographic Family Journeys travel experiences we鈥檝e created through our close collaboration with G Adventures over the last decade. Together, we鈥檙e thrilled to continue developing meaningful and immersive ways for travellers and families alike to truly connect with the people and cultures of destinations around the world.鈥
G Adventures and National Geographic Expeditions have carefully crafted over 100 itineraries over the past 10 years, each centered around National Geographic鈥檚 legacy of science, exploration, education and storytelling. Every journey helps travellers to connect with local communities, experience new cultures and enjoy the work of National Geographic鈥檚 scientists and storytellers.
With National Geographic鈥檚 commitment to conservation, culture and heritage of each place we visit, combined with G Adventures鈥 position in the community tourism sector, the collaboration has created a seismic 10-year impact on communities across the world. Twenty five G for Good Planeterra projects are now visited on 鈥楯ourneys鈥 trips and, as a result of this, G Adventures shares that over 51,881 community lives have been uplifted through community tourism. Additionally, every purchase helps support the nonprofit National Geographic Society, which works to protect and illuminate the world through exploration, research and education.
After launching its National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures in 2015, National Geographic Family Journeys with G Adventures were introduced in 2019. The expansion of offerings extended this immersive style of travel to younger generations, igniting their inner explorer, passion for the natural world and curiosity for differing cultures, while connecting with siblings, parents or grandparents.
The National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures and National Geographic Family Journeys collections visit 52 countries including South Africa, Japan, Egypt, Greece and Thailand. Highlight family experiences include noodle making classes in Vietnam, ziplining and wildlife spotting in Costa Rica and Taiko drumming classes with a pro Wadaiko drummer in Japan. Travellers on National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures trips can experience meeting with monks to understand more about Buddhism in Chiang Mai, learning about protecting endangered carnivores from a researcher in the Greater Kruger National Park, exploring ancient sites with an archaeologist in Athens and visiting a non-profit cafe called Shedia, where groups will hear from a previously homeless guide about the impact of Greece鈥檚 financial crisis.
