Four BJP MLAs suspended from West Bengal Assembly

Four MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party, namely chief whip Shankar Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Dipak Barman, and Manoj Oraon, were suspended from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday (June 23, 2025) following a chaotic disruption and heated exchanges during Assembly proceedings.

They were suspended from the House due to disobedience towards the Speaker, for allegedly hitting microphones, and misconduct.

On Monday, Mr. Ghosh initiated protests in the Assembly along with 40 BJP legislators against the alleged expunction of comments by saffron party MLAs on Thursday last week.

During the Assembly session, protesting BJP MLAs were seen disrupting Trinamool Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya鈥檚 speech. Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay ordered the suspension of the four BJP MLAs after his instructions for them to settle down were ignored.

Assembly security staff were then seen escorting the four suspended MLAs out of the Assembly. There were also reports of scuffles between the BJP MLAs and the security personnel escorting them out.

After continuing protests for some time, other BJP legislators also staged a walk out shortly after.

Additionally, Mr Bandopadhyay dismissed Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari鈥檚 attempts to register a protest against the suspension. However, he said he would 鈥渓ook into the matter鈥 after Trinamool legislators demanded action over damaging microphones.
