Tight end will be one of the most fun positions to watch when the Dallas Cowboys kick off training camp in no small part thanks to undrafted free agents and former undrafted free agents. Other than Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker, this is how the Cowboys TE room is built:
Brevyn Spann-Ford (2024 UDFA)
Princeton Fant (2023 UDFA)
John Stephens Jr. (2023 UDFA)
Tyler Neville (2025 UDFA)
Rivaldo Fairweather (2025 UDFA)
That’s right, out of seven rostered tight ends five arrived to the team via undrafted free agency. In the last few years, the Cowboys have been more than open to play UDFA rookies at the position. Fant played two games in 2023, and Spann-Ford played 17 games in 2024. The Cowboys have publicly stated John Stephens Jr. would’ve made the team as a rookie had it not been for a season-ending injury. Now that the Cowboys have two new UDFAs at the position—Tyler Neville and Rivaldo Fairweather—it’s easy to assume they will have a shot at the 53-man roster. However, it may not be as “easy” as in previous years.
Cowboys insider Joe Hoyt says it “could be tough for a UDFA to make this team
Cowboys insider Joe Hoyt from Dallas Morning News joined me on the A to Z Sports Dallas YouTube channel to discuss the team’s top position battles ahead of training camp and when we dove into the tight ends, Hoyt talked about needing to see more from the rookie tight ends.”I’m curious to see more about the tight ends, I didn’t really see a lot out of them too much during minicamp and OTAs, Princeton Fant was more a guy involved than those two, also a former UDFA,” Hoyt told me on A to Z Sports Dallas. “It could be tough for a UDFA to make this team.”
