Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal stunned the world as they knocked out PL giants Manchester City in the Round of 16 in an enticing encounter to book their berth in the quarters of the event, while Brazilian outfit Fluminense ousted Serie A side Inter Milan to set up a last-eight encounter.
Palmeiras, who pipped compatriots Botafogo in a 1-0 win in the Ro16 as Pulinho got the telling touch in the 100th minute of the game that went to extra time, are slated to take on Chelsea, who got the better of Portuguese side Benfica in a 4-1 thrashing of the Lisbon-based side.
UEFA Champions League winners PSG routed Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in a 4-0 mauling of the MLS side to secure their spot in the semis, where they will take on Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who moved into the second knockout round with their 4-2 triumph over Flamengo, in the top-billed encounter in the round.
La Liga bigwigs Real Madrid edged out Italian side Juventus thanks to sensation Gonzalo Garcia to reach the quarters of the event on North America and are slated to take on German unit Borussia Dortmund, who saw off Mexican Monterrey in a closely contested game riding on a Serhou Guirassy brace.
