The Indiana Fever have not lived up to the hype that surrounded them ahead of the 2025 WNBA season. Caitlin Clark missed a chunk of time due to a quad injury, but the team as a whole simply hasn’t been able to come together.One of their key offseason additions, DeWanna Bonner, was expected to come in and make a big-time impact. However, that did not happen.Bonner didn’t look like a good fit from the beginning of the season. That led to her being benched, which did not go over well.Recently, Bonner had missed time since June 12 and rumors had started circulating that she did not want to return to the team. To replace her spot on the roster, they re-signed Aari McDonald, who was signed earlier this season during Clark’s injury absence.”The Indiana Fever are waiving DeWanna Bonner on Wednesday morning, league sources told IndyStar,” Peterson wrote. “Concurrently, the Fever will re-sign Aari McDonald to a standard rest-of-season contract at the veteran minimum.”Peterson also provided more context about why this move came about.”But Bonner consistently felt like it wasn’t a good fit from the beginning of the season, league sources said. The Fever tried different lineups and combinations, which included moving Bonner to coming off the bench and putting Lexie Hull in the starting lineup, but they couldn’t get to a place where Bonner was feeling good about her role,” she wrote.”Bonner then requested a trade, according to league sources. She averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 34.5 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point range.It shouldn’t take long for Bonner to find a new home with another team.
