SMD Semiconductor chief executive officer (CEO) Shariman Jamil emphasised that the company believes that the next generation of tech innovators can come from Sarawak.

鈥淎t SMD, we鈥檙e looking for talents who are ready to take on real-world challenges in chip design, AI and intelligent systems. Through platforms like SCaTFair, we鈥檙e creating opportunities for Sarawakians to step into the global tech arena鈥攕tarting right here at home.鈥

鈥淪MD is not just building chips鈥攊t鈥檚 building a Silicon Longhouse in the Samajaya High Tech Zone, where Sarawak鈥檚 heritage meets cutting-edge innovation,鈥 he said in a media release today.

At the core of this mission is the Semiconductor Mastery Programme, a six-month specialised training in Analogue Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and IC Test Solution Development Engineering.

This flagship initiative is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), along with industry leaders such as Melexis NV (Belgium), X-Fab Sarawak (Germany), and Centexs.

SMD also partners with local universities to drive advanced education and specialised talent development, including a postgraduate microelectronics programme in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak.

This talent-first mission is strongly backed by the Sarawak Government. The Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, envisions Sarawak as a thriving hub for the global semiconductor industry, propelled by strategic partnerships and homegrown talent.
