Expansion plan at Ayrshire nursing home in bid to improve quality of environment

Plans have been submitted in a bid to improve the quality of the living environment at an Ayrshire nursing home. Ayrshire Live can reveal that proposals have been lodged to increase the number of bedrooms within Dundonald House Nursing Home. An application has been submitted with South Ayrshire Council, seeking permission for alterations and to build a single storey extension at the home, on Old Loans Road. It is hoped that as many as six new bedrooms could be built. Agent in the proposals is Lochwinnoch-based James Harper Architect and the applicant is Anne Kerr, of Dundonald House Nursing Home Ltd. A supporting statement said: 鈥淭he proposal seeks to enhance the existing standard of care by introducing single-room accommodation, improving infection prevention, and embedding dementia-friendly principles within the design. 鈥淚mportantly, this development will not increase the registered capacity of the care home but will improve the quality of the living environment for residents.鈥 The proposed development comprises a single-storey extension with six en-suite bedrooms designed for 鈥渟ingle occupancy.鈥 And interlinking doors between adjoining rooms would be incorporated to help provide flexibility to 鈥渁ccommodate couples鈥 鈥渨here appropriate.鈥 And each room will include a patio door for direct access to an external garden area and additional natural light within each bedroom. In addition to private accommodation, the extension will include a communal lounge/dining area with a servery, providing a 鈥渉omely, social environment鈥 that 鈥渆ncourages resident interaction, reduces isolation, and supports independent living.鈥 The supporting statement adds: 鈥淭his proposed development represents a thoughtful, future-facing enhancement to Dundonald House that supports improved care quality, operational resilience, and resident dignity. 鈥淚t reflects best practice in healthcare architecture and is grounded in evidence-based design for infection prevention and dementia care.鈥 The proposals are listed as 鈥榩ending consideration鈥 on South Ayrshire Council鈥檚 online planning portal and a decision on them is expected in August.
