The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, recently convened a key meeting with major players in Ghana鈥檚 petroleum sector to address urgent concerns surrounding laycan management and to discuss important downstream reforms.
The gathering included representatives from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), COMAC, CBOD, TOR, BOST, COPEC, alongside other industry stakeholders.
The central focus was on optimising laycan鈥攖he designated window during which vessels are scheduled for loading or unloading petroleum products. Minister Jinapor highlighted the critical need for enhanced coordination and efficiency throughout the petroleum supply chain to mitigate delays and disruptions.
鈥淎s Minister, I take full responsibility for the challenges associated with the laycan. I do not want to engage in any blame games. I鈥檝e spoken to some of you, and I appreciate the challenges. You have my commitment that we will soon publish a roadmap to address them,鈥 he assured attendees.
Beyond laycan management, discussions also centered on implementing downstream reforms aimed at modernising the sector, boosting operational efficiency, and ensuring a stable, reliable supply of petroleum products to meet the country鈥檚 needs.
Minister Jinapor further revealed government plans to upgrade existing petroleum infrastructure, including constructing an additional mooring system to help alleviate current sector challenges and improve logistics.
