Electrical Safety Day 2025: Smart Energy, Safe Nation

Electrical Safety Day 2025: Smart Energy, Safe Nation

In a powerful reaffirmation of India鈥檚 commitment to building a safe and sustainable energy future, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, in partnership with BSES, hosted the Electrical Safety Day 2025 in New Delhi on June 26, 2025. The celebration was a dynamic blend of policy dialogue, public outreach, technical discussion, and symbolic action, all rooted in one common goal: ensuring safety remains at the core of India鈥檚 accelerating energy transition.

This year鈥檚 theme, 鈥淪mart Energy, Safe Nation,鈥 perfectly encapsulated the dual aspirations of India鈥攖o harness next-generation energy systems like Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure, and Rooftop Solar, while embedding electrical safety into their very design, deployment, and use.

Inaugural Session: A Call to Action

The event was inaugurated by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon鈥檅le Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, who highlighted that while energy systems are becoming smarter and greener, the evolving risks demand equally advanced safety protocols.

鈥淓lectricity drives every aspect of our modern lives鈥攑owering homes, hospitals, industries, and transport. But with this power comes great responsibility. Safety must always come first,鈥 he emphasized. 鈥淟et us join hands to create not just a Smart India, but a Safe India for all.鈥

Also addressing the gathering were Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power; Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, CEA; and Shri Amal Sinha, Director and Group CEO, BSES. Each stressed the need for institutionalizing safety as a mindset rather than a mere regulatory obligation.

The significance of the event was underscored by the presence of over 300 delegates, representing a wide cross-section of stakeholders鈥攗tilities, regulators, electrical inspectorates, RWAs, OEMs, prosumers, and field workers. The online webcast further expanded the event鈥檚 impact, drawing 25,000+ views within 22 hours.

Key Highlights: Safety Meets Innovation

One of the landmark moments of Electrical Safety Day 2025 was the launch of 鈥淪uraksha Shakti鈥, the official Electrical Safety Mascot. Designed to appeal to people across all age groups, Suraksha Shakti aims to transform safety messaging into an engaging, visual narrative, making it more accessible and memorable for the public.

In a significant knowledge-sharing milestone, the event also saw the release of the first-ever Electrical Safety Handbook鈥攁 comprehensive, user-friendly guide jointly developed by CEA and BSES. It contains critical safety guidelines for:

Installation and upkeep of BESS systems

Proper handling of EV charging stations

Safe deployment of rooftop solar units

This handbook is poised to serve as a go-to reference for utilities, technicians, and energy users across India, bridging the gap between safety regulation and real-world practice.

Interactive and Technical Engagements

The post-inaugural sessions brought forward deep technical insights from institutions like CEA, NPTI, and BSES, along with leading industry experts. One of the most appreciated moments was an innovative ventriloquist performance by Sh. Satyajit Padhye, who used humor and storytelling to convey critical safety tips鈥攅specially resonating with RWAs and laypersons.

Topics ranged from modern earthing technologies to digital fault detection systems, all reinforcing the day鈥檚 core message: smart energy must be safe energy.

Future Roadmap: From Day to Movement

Building on the momentum of Electrical Safety Day, the Government and its partners have launched a week-long awareness campaign, which includes:

Safety pledge ceremonies in schools, RWAs, and industries

Widespread public dissemination of safety best practices

Deployment of Suraksha Shakti in local outreach drives

Amplified focus on institutional safety culture across utilities

These initiatives aim to catalyze a broader, sustained movement for electrical safety that extends well beyond a single event.

Towards a Safer, Smarter Energy India

As India accelerates toward its clean energy ambitions, the rise of decentralized systems and digital grids brings exciting innovation鈥攂ut also heightened risks. Electrical Safety Day 2025 serves as a vital reminder that precaution must always keep pace with progress.

Whether it is a rooftop panel, an EV charging station, or a smart meter, safety must be hardwired into every connection. And with proactive leadership, informed citizens, and collaborative effort, India is well on its way to becoming both a Smart Energy and a Safe Nation.
