The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has voiced strong concern about the emerging trend of students carrying weapons to school, describing it as deeply troubling and a serious risk to the safety of both learners and teachers.

He made these remarks during the official inauguration of board members for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), held in Accra on July 4, 2025.

The Education Minister exhorted the importance of discipline and adherence to school rules, and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to curb the rise in violence within educational spaces.

He urged the newly sworn-in boards to not only focus on academic outcomes but also prioritize the emotional and social development of students.

The Minister further advocated for the early introduction of artificial intelligence and coding into the primary school curriculum. He added that such skills are essential for preparing students for a rapidly evolving digital world.

In response, the newly appointed board chairs : Professor Vincent Assanful (NaCCA) and Dr. Maabobor Kor Jacob Aaworb-Nang (NaSIA), pledged to uphold quality standards in pre-tertiary education and work closely with key institutions to strengthen Ghana’s education system.
