Education inspectors' 'brilliant' report for West Lothian village's school and nursery class

Education Scotland inspectors were very impressed during a recent visit to a school and nursery in a West Lothian village. The inspection team spent time at Longridge Primary School and Nursery Class in the school in April this year, where they talked to parents/carers and children, and worked closely with the headteacher and staff. The findings of the inspection visit were published by Education Scotland on Tuesday, June 17 with inspectors ranking the school as Very Good for Learning, teaching and assessment, Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion and, Leadership of Change. They also ranked the school as Good under Raising attainment and achievement. There was equally great feedback in the nursery class. Inspectors handed out three Very Good ratings in the same quality indicators as the Primary School (Learning, teaching and assessment, Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion and, Leadership of Change). An additional Good rating was awarded to the Nursery Class for 鈥楽ecuring children鈥檚 progress鈥 A small number of areas for improvement were identified and also discussed with the headteacher and a representative from West Lothian Council. Headteacher Theresa McLaren said: 鈥淲e are extremely pleased with the positive findings from the Inspections teams visit to Longridge. Our staff work extremely hard to deliver for our children across the Primary and Nursery settings so it is pleasing to see this reflected. “We are of course very fortunate to have such fantastic pupils to work with and we will ensure all feedback is built upon for the continued benefit of pupils and the wider Longridge community.鈥 Inspectors highlighted a number of specific strengths during their visit: Andrew McGuire, West Lothian鈥檚 executive councillor for education, said: 鈥淲ell done to everyone at Longridge Primary and Nursery Class. This is a brilliant report and the local community should be extremely proud of the School and Nursery.鈥 Don’t miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
