A stunning waterfront estate belonging to F1 star Eddie Irvine has gone on sale for £27.6million. Northern Ireland’s wild child of racing purchased the 5,671 sq ft plot of land five years ago. The exceptional property, designed by acclaimed architect Max Strang, now offers six spacious bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a private office. And after investing millions into building the custom home, 59-year-old Irvine is putting it on the market, as reported by Luxury Property News . The property has an indoor theatre, expansive outdoor living spaces, a pool and a shaded cabana. A rooftop terrace offers breath-taking 360-degree views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline in Florida. Sustainability is woven into the design with energy-efficient systems, hurricane-resistant windows and smart-home technology to control lighting, climate and security. There’s even a boat lift built to handle yachts up to 60 feet in length. And it’s likely anyone with the funds necessary to purchase the property may have their own aquatic interests. Irvine made his Formula 1 debut in 1993 with the Jordan team, scoring a point in his very first race in Japan. In the following years, he became known for his aggressive, fearless driving. He stood on the podium 26 times and won four races throughout his days on the track. He reached the pinnacle of his career in 1999 when he stepped up as Ferrari’s new No. 1 after team-mate Michael Schumacher was injured. Irvine won four races that season and came very close to clinching the world championship, narrowly missing out by just two points. McLaren’s Mika Hakkinen successfully defended his crown that year, where the title was decided on the last day of the campaign. Victory in Malaysia saw Irvine lead the table heading to Suzuka. However, his championship bid came undone in Japan, where he finished third while Hakkinen crossed in first to overtake him at the death. It’s a testament to Schumacher that he placed fifth in the standings despite only competing in nine races that season. And he in fact returned from injury to beat team-mate Irvine in Japan, where he finished second. Irvine retired from Formula 1 at the end of the 2002 season. And he already had a back-up career awaiting him considering he had already become a millionaire prior to his racing career taking flight. The County Down-born star amassed an impressive portfolio of properties , which only grew after he shot to F1 fame. It’s estimated Irvine boasts a net worth of around £92m , but that figure could be set to rocket if he sells his Florida abode. After retirement, he stepped away from F1 and shifted his focus to business, property and occasional media work. His Miami property is currently listed on Zillow and is available to view.
