ABUJA 鈥 Ahead of the 2025 Spain-Africa Summit, ECOWAS Commission and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) have held strategic talks on fostering collaboration.
The meeting was held when Mrs Nardos Bekele-Thomas, CEO of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), paid a working visit to H.E Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, at the ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, a statement said.
The high-level meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between AUDA-NEPAD and ECOWAS, particularly in support of the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and other regional agencies.
Mrs Bekele-Thomas introduced Team Africa, AUDA-NEPAD鈥檚 platform for implementing Agenda 2063, the African Union鈥檚 50-year vision for 鈥淭he Africa We Want.鈥
She noted that while the first Ten-Year Implementation Plan (2014鈥2023) achieved some progress, critical gaps remain in areas such as economic transformation and institutional governance.
The Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (STYIP) aims to accelerate progress with ambitious.
In response, Dr. Touray reaffirmed ECOWAS鈥檚 support for AUDA-NEPAD and expressed commitment to joint priorities, especially in preparation for the 2025 Spain-Africa Summit.
He emphasized that ECOWAS鈥檚 participation is guided by a delivery-focused approach, with a priority on economic growth and overcoming barriers to regional and international trade.
