Pensioners across the UK could be missing out on a financial boost worth thousands. Attendance Allowance helps with extra costs if you have a disability or health condition which means you need someone to help look after you. It is one of the most underclaimed benefits issued by the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ). According to Gov.uk, there are two different rates and how much you receive will depend on the level of care you need. It is worth up to 拢110.40 a week, which is 拢5,740 a year. You could qualify for Attendance Allowance if you have a physical disability, a mental disability, or a health condition and you are of State Pension age or older. Anyone making a claim for Attendance Allowance must have needed help for at least six months. Gov.uk says: “You could get extra Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction if you get Attendance Allowance. “You do not have to have someone caring for you in order to claim.” The benefit is also not means tested, so your savings will not affect how much you are entitled to.
