Dungloe students use heads and hearts to raise funds for Gemma’s Legacy of Hope

Children from Scoil Chróine, Dungloe recently used both their heads and their hearts to raise a brilliant €700 Gemma’s Legacy of Hope, a counselling and play therapy support service based in the town.

The kids took part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme this year.

The programme that gives school children a picture of what creating a business is all about, as well as giving them the opportunity to experience setting up their own business.

Under the guidance of their teacher and classroom assistant, Hugh Gallagher & PJ Walsh, and with the inspiration of local entrepreneurs like Eimear Walsh of DigiDomhan Marketing, the children discovered their strengths as individuals and as part of a team.

Together, they chose, invested in and produced their own product from scratch, all the way to making it available for sale at a school-hosted JEP Showcase Day – enjoying and sharing the profits at the end.

Their business ‘Sip n Stick’ consisted of personalised Dungloe GAA bottles as well as car window stickers of their local GAA club jerseys, CLG An Clochán Liath & CLG Naomh Muire.

With the profits they made, they all received their initial investment back, they funded a second school tour for themselves, paid for a food van to come into school in their last week and also made a donation of €700 to a very worthy local charity, Gemma’s Legacy of Hope.

The kids are pictured with John Boyle from Gemma’s Legacy of Hope making the cheque presentation.
