Drinks firms International Beverage and William Grant & Sons raise £34k for St Andrew's Hospice with charity football match

It was three cheers to St Andrew’s Hospice as two major drinks firms clubbed together to raise an incredible £34,000 for the Airdrie charity. Airdrieonians FC’s Excelsior Stadium hosted a football match between teams from the town’s International Beverage and Bellshill’s William Grant & Sons. The kind-hearted Lanarkshire companies have held the fundraiser twice before – in 2022 and 2023 – and collected around £37,000 for the hospice. But they nearly bettered that with this year’s event, which saw International Beverage’s practise pay off with a first success over their opponents – a 4-0 win. Kevin McGuigan scored two of the four goals and Jamie Hamilton was named man of the match. Eileen Rae, International Beverage’s business support manager, said: “Our annual football tournament, which raises funds for St Andrews Hospice, is an absolute highlight of our year. “The team spirit and good-natured rivalry with our friends at William Grant make for a hugely enjoyable event, made all the sweeter this year by a victory for International Beverage. “Congratulations to all the players who trained hard and brought their best to the pitch – and for all the support and donations from our wider community, who gave generously for a wonderful cause.” Colin McGraw, production supervisor, William Grant & Sons, added: “We were delighted to be invited to take part again this year. “Our thanks go to everyone from our company whose support on the day, and generosity, helped us smash our fundraising target. “It was a privilege to raise a lot of money for a great charity.” *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
