Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old state assemblyman, is set to be the Democratic candidate for New York City Mayor, making history as the first Muslim nominee. After his historic win, US President Donald Trump called New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani 鈥渁 communist,鈥 and said the Big Apple will become 鈥渁 communistic city鈥 if he is elected mayor in November.鈥淚 can鈥檛 believe that鈥檚 happening,鈥 Trump told reporters at the White House. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 a terrible thing for our country, by the way.鈥 President Trump is confident Zohran Mamdani would “crush” New York City if he is elected mayor, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.ALSO READ: ‘If he gets in…’: Trump vs Zohran Mamdani escalates as US President threatens to pull the plug in fiery clashWhite House on Zohran Mamdani’s deportationOn White, the White House Secretary responded to a question about some Republican calls for the deportation of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff, wrote on X following Mamdani’s upset victory: “NYC is the clearest warning yet of what happens to a society when it fails to control migration.”The New York Young Republican Club, on X following the Democratic primary in NYC: “A CALL TO ACTION FROM THE NYYRC. The radical Zohran Mamdani cannot be allowed to destroy our beloved city of New York.”Live EventsRepublicans for National Renewal, a group that says it campaigns for President Trump’s “America First agenda” within the GOP, replying to the NYYRC: “We fully support this initiative. Communist radical Zohran Mamdani should be remigrated as soon as possible.”Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Leavitt, “Does President Trump want Zohran Mamdani deported?”ALSO READ: Russia’s bone-chilling World War III threat to this western country after secret ‘anti-Putin campaign'”I haven’t heard him say that. I haven’t heard him call for that. But certainly he does not want this individual to be elected. I was just speaking to him about it and [Mamdani’s] radical policies that will completely crush New York City, which is obviously a city that the president holds near and dear to his heart,” Leavitt responded. The question came after Republican Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles called for Mamdani to be denaturalized, with other GOP members also calling for his deportation. Leavitt went on to say that Trump would be willing to work with Mamdani if he is elected, though she predicted that the relationship would be difficult.Trump willing to work with Mamdani”Look, the president is always willing to work with everyone. He’s working with Democrats across the country, Democrat governors. And he said he’ll work with people on the far left. He works with Republicans. He works with people in the middle. He wants to do what’s right for America,” Leavitt said.”But surely someone who holds these values and is quite literally a communist and condemns every value that makes this country great: common sense, law and order, low taxes, working hard, and earning your keep in this country. He’s against all of that. And I think the president would find it difficult to work with someone like that, if he is elected. I’m sure you’ll hear more from the president on that, but we’ll have to see. Hopefully, the voters of New York City choose wisely,” she finished.ALSO READ: ‘Not everyone can marry Trump’: Melania Trump visa controversy re-surfaces in shocking twistMamdani defeated establishment favorite and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and a crowded field of other candidates, in the Democratic mayoral primary last week. However, some view his victory as evidence of uncontrolled migration, aligning with the White House’s broader strategy of keeping border policy at the center of the national conversation. If experts are to be believed, it’s not feasible for Trump to deport Mamdani. Denaturalization, or revoking an immigrant’s U.S. citizenship is extremely rare, and is usually only initiated due to proven immigration fraud, or because their parents’ citizenship was revoked for similar reasons.Doocy followed up by asking about Republican Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee, who has called for denaturalization proceedings against Mamdani, citing, in part, rap lyrics the mayoral candidate allegedly wrote in 2017 that referenced “terrorism.”He asked, “Does Trump think that’s a worthwhile use of the attorney general’s time?”Leavitt replied, “Well, I’ll let the president speak to that. I have not seen those claims, but surely, if they are true, it’s something that should be investigated.”Other Republicans have also suggested that Mamdani leave the U.S., with Representative Brandon Gill telling the mayoral candidate to “go back to the Third World” in response to him eating with his hands.(You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel)
