Din l-Art 摩elwa 'regrets' Torri l-Abjad event, promises to avoid a repetition

Environment NGO Din l-Art 摩elwa said on Wednesday that it sincerely regretted the way how a party was held at Torri l-Abjad, which it holds in guardianship, promising to take measures to avoid a repeat. The Malta Rangers Unit had complained that the event, called Bangers Only, went ahead on the Marfa historical site without an environmental permit. DLH admitted that the event as planned and executed by a third party did not follow the guidelines it had laid down. It was inappropriately conceptualised and organised without sufficient regard for the heritage significance and environmental sensitivity of the location, which is part of the Natura 2000 network. “As a guardianship organisation committed to the protection and preservation of Malta鈥檚 cultural and natural heritage, Din l-Art 摩elwa sincerely regrets that the event did not reflect the respect and care that such a site deserves,” it said. It noted that the organisers had publicly apologised. “We wish to state in no uncertain terms that we do not endorse or support such events and are taking immediate steps to prevent such incidents in the future,” the heritage NGO insisted. “Over many years, Din l-Art 摩elwa and our passionate volunteers have dedicated countless hours and effort to painstakingly restore and maintain the tower, ensuring its preservation for future generations. This selfless work, funded by many sponsors over 60 years, must never be taken lightly or forgotten and should not be diluted by such events.”
