Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3 Will Lose Almost Half Its Profit Due To Hania Aamir Casting: Producer

Diljit Dosanjh is embroiled in controversy due to the casting of Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, amid stringent tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. Amid rising boycott calls against Diljit Dosanjh, the film will not be released in India. As per the film鈥檚 producer, Gunbir Singh Sidhu, the film will lose nearly half its profit by skipping an Indian release.
Gunbir Singh Sidhu told NDTV, 鈥淢y previous film, Jatt and Juliet 3, came out last year, which was led by Diljit and Neeru. It was the first Punjabi film to do a business of Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office. Forty per cent of that came from business in India and 60 per cent overseas. So you assume that we have a business of about 40 crore from India and 60 crore from abroad. In such a situation, it is clear that 40 per cent of our revenue loss has happened.鈥
He added, 鈥淲hen we came to know about this attack, we decided that we would not release the film in India, because we did not want to hurt the sentiments of our people in any way. We, too, were hurt by this incident. Keeping this honour in mind, we decided that the film will be released only overseas because our major investment is there. There was no restriction from any government overseas, so it was decided to release there. We did not put the trailer on YouTube in India, nor did we do any kind of promotional activities.鈥
鈥淣ow we have taken this decision with full strength that we will not work with any Pakistani artist from now on,鈥 Gunbir said. He added, 鈥淚 have no two opinions on this. If there is a country that is also working with us, and still such attacks are happening from their side, then this is thankless behaviour. And I do not support it.鈥
Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh also broke his silence on the controversy recently and told BBC Asian Network that the project was completed before any of the current political tensions surfaced. Sardaar Ji 3, directed by Amar Hundal, is set for an overseas release on June 27. However, it will not be released in Indian theatres.
