A Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Raleigh landed safely on Monday night, but a piece of the plane didn鈥檛 reach its destination. The next morning, a large metal part was found in a residential driveway on Banbury Road in Raleigh, which was later confirmed to be a missing wing flap from the aircraft. Flight 3247, a Boeing 737-900, took off from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and had arrived at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport around 11:00 p.m. on July 1 without any reported issues. The next day a resident called 911 to report a strange object lying on their driveway. Police arrived and then blocked off the area, reported Travel and Tour World. By midday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the object was part of the plane鈥檚 left wing trailing edge flap. Delta said that the missing flap was found during a routine post-flight inspection. Trailing edge flaps are important for controlling a plane鈥檚 lift during the takeoff and landing, as per Travel and Tour World. According to experts, losing a flap mid-flight could affect the aircraft鈥檚 performance, especially during landing. Still, the Delta flight landed safely with no emergency declared.
