Delhi Man Arrested For Attempting Cyber Fraud Using Baba Siddiqui’s Identity

Mumbai Police have arrested a man from Delhi for allegedly activating the mobile number of senior politician Baba Siddiqui and trying to use it for cyber fraud.
Notably, the accused already has cases of cybercrime filed against him.
The incident came to light when the telecom company received an email allegedly in the name of Shehzeen Siddique. The email, which requested official authorisation to activate the number, was accompanied by identity documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, GST details, and a forged letterhead of the family’s business.
It also had Dr. Arshiya Siddique marked in CC, raising suspicions within the family and alerting them to a possible fraud attempt.
After verification, it was discovered that the documents were fake and someone was trying to misuse Baba Siddique’s name.
A complaint was filed based on statements by Dr. Arshiya in Bandra Police Station.
Baba Siddiqui, the former Maharashtra minister, who joined Ajit Pawar-led NCP in February last year after resigning from Congress, was waylaid by three men at Kher Nagar in Mumbai’s Bandra area just outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office and shot dead on October 18.
The Mumbai Police arrested three accused – Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap, Gurmail Baljit Singh, and Pravin Lonkar, in connection with the case.
