Decision on Asia Cup participation rests with govt, says PHF secretary

LAHORE: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary Rana Mujahid said on Tuesday that no decision has yet been made regarding the national team鈥檚 participation in the upcoming Asia Cup in India, adding that the matter remained under consideration at the highest level of the government.

Speaking at a press conference called on short notice, the PHF official clarified that the issue was 鈥渉ighly sensitive鈥 and that only the federal government, specifically the Prime Minister, had the authority to decide whether or not the national side will travel to India for the event, scheduled for September.

鈥淭he issue is under discussion at the government level and we will act according to its directive,鈥 Mujahid said. 鈥淭here is no deadline pressure from the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), as such timelines are extendable.鈥
