Cybercrime awareness drives show success in Mysuru, digital arrest cases see drop

Awareness initiatives against cybercrimes, especially digital arrest scams, have led to a significant reduction in such cases in Mysuru city. Cyber Crime Police report that digital arrest incidents have fallen steeply鈥攆rom 29 cases last year to just six in the first half of this year.

Overall, cybercrime in the city has shown a downward trend. While 140 cyber-related FIRs were filed by July last year, only 75 have been registered so far this year, marking a nearly 50% decline.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Sneha Raj N credited the positive shift to widespread public education and sustained awareness campaigns. 鈥淲e鈥檝e increased our outreach efforts, which are clearly yielding results,鈥 she said.

Despite the drop in some areas, certain forms of online fraud continue to pose challenges. Scammers are still targeting victims through fake stock market investment schemes and fraudulent job offers. Numerous individuals have also been conned into transferring money after being misled into believing they were receiving expensive gifts from abroad.

Authorities urge the public to remain cautious, avoid sharing personal information online, and verify the authenticity of unsolicited offers or alerts.

Mysuru police plan to intensify awareness programs further to combat evolving cyber threats and protect citizens from falling prey to digital deception.
