Courts relaunches optical centre at Main St branch

Furniture and appliance store Courts Guyana recently celebrated a milestone in health care and optometry with the relaunching of Courts Optical at its Main Street store as part of its effort to provide affordable, comprehensive, accessible, and quality eye care to all Guyanese.

The feature address was given by the Ministry of Health鈥檚 Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Narine Singh, who congratulated Courts and parent company, Unicomer for their continued investment in the health and well-being of the people of Guyana. He quoted a statement from the World Health Organization: 鈥淧reventing blindness is one of the most cost-effective health investments,鈥 while highlighting that vision is not just about sight; it is opportunity, dignity, and quality of life.

Dr Singh informed the gathering that as Chief Medical Officer, one of his key responsibilities is to oversee the strategic direction of public health services of which vision care is a critical part. He lamented that eye health is often overlooked until it becomes a crisis, noting that poor vision can affect every aspect of life including education, employment, mobility, and even mental well-being.

He also expressed awareness that uncorrected refractive errors, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease, remain leading causes of visual impairment in Guyana, which is unfortunate as many of these conditions are entirely preventable or treatable with timely intervention.
