Cops probe Co-op ATM gang after second store rammed in smash and grab theft

Police are probing a Co-op cash machine gang after two stores were rammed in smash and grab thefts over the weekend. Officers were called to the store on Kirkintilloch Road in Lenzie, near Glasgow, after the first incident was reported at around 2.15am on Saturday. Cops were responding to reports of a break-in and theft of cash from an ATM. Pictures taken from the scene showed glass scattered across the floor after the machine was ripped out of the store. The ‘free cash withdrawals’ sign could be seen amongst various other debris, with a police car positioned outside the shop. Officers were then called to the shop on Perth Road in Scone following another report of a break-in at around 3.15am on Sunday. Again an ATM was hauled out from within the store, as it was ripped through the front of the shop. Pictures showed the damage after thugs in a “pick-up truck” broke into the store before attaching straps to the cash machine and pulling it out the front of the shop. Officers could be seen standing guard beside debris. In another image a white pick-up truck could be seen in the middle of the road with yellow straps attached to the back of the vehicle. Locals living nearby in Scone told how they woke up at around 3am to hear the robbery taking place. One man, who lives across the road from the shop, said: “A pick-up hauled the cash machine out the wall of the Co-op. I heard something at about 3am and thought it was bins getting blown over, but there was a big vehicle stopped for a bit. I never heard any alarm going off and I live right across the street from the Co-op.” Another added: “I live just along road. That place is always getting robbed but this is first time the cash machine has been hauled out.” It’s understood a quantity of cash was stolen during both incidents and police are currently looking into whether or not they could be linked. No one has yet been arrested and officers from Police Scotland are appealing for information. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 鈥淎round 2.15am on Saturday, June 28, 2025, we received a report of a break-in and theft of cash from an ATM at a premises on Kirkintilloch Road, Lenzie.
