The 10-week 鈥2025 Community Consumption Grand Prize鈥 campaign generated over MOP1.1 billion in total spending across the city, positively impacting businesses in the retail, catering, and service industries, organizers said during the closing ceremony held yesterday.
One of the event鈥檚 organizers, the Macao Chamber of Commerce, emphasized that the initiative has become a 鈥減owerful catalyst鈥 for boosting the local economy. In her opening remarks, Tina Ho said, 鈥淭he 2025 Community Consumption Grand Prize program drew about 20,000 business participants in just 10 weeks, covering industries such as dining, retail, and lifestyle services.
Through e-vouchers, merchant promotions, and various lucky draws, the promotional efforts significantly increased customer engagement and spending. The use of digital coupons totaling MOP250 million has driven overall consumption to MOP1.04 billion.鈥
The campaign included special initiatives for senior citizens, offering over MOP30 million in discounts through the Senior Citizen Macau Pass. This led to around MOP62 million in extra spending linked to these discounts.
Overall, the campaign, which ran from March 24 to June 1, generated over MOP 1.1 billion in total spending across the city. Participating merchants accounted for approximately 29% of businesses in the retail, catering, and service sectors.
Summarizing the initiative鈥檚 achievements, Ho noted that the 鈥渋mpressive results have stabilized鈥 the business confidence of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and received 鈥渨idespread praise鈥 from residents and businesses alike. However, she quickly emphasized that, amid complex global changes, consumption patterns among residents and tourists have shifted, requiring ongoing efforts to revitalize the community economy.
We will continue to support and actively participate in the high-quality development of the economy, fully aligning with the government鈥檚 various policy initiatives of the special administrative region (SAR) and working with all sectors of society to promote economic growth and development, driving Macau鈥檚 economy to new heights,鈥 she stated.
Another co-organizer, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), noted that the campaign received 鈥渆nthusiastic鈥 responses from all sectors, with the total redemption value of electronic vouchers reaching about MOP250 million.
During her address, Cheang Hio Man, the acting director of the bureau, highlighted the event鈥檚 positive impact on both consumer behavior and local businesses.
鈥淭he event successfully created a lively environment for social spending, boosted the confidence of SMEs in their business operations, and helped facilitate the flow of money within the community,鈥 she said, emphasizing that the event, by integrating resources and designing diverse activities, significantly improved consumers鈥 satisfaction and participation.
She also noted the initiative to provide strengthened guidance on spending behaviors, offer additional support to businesses in residential areas, and revitalize the community economy.
Cheang said the bureau is committed to working with the business community to explore and launch more diverse activities in the future, aiming to boost consumer activity and energize the community.
The grand prize draw featured weekly draws valued at MOP480,000, along with a grand prize cash award, electronic coupons, and gifts sponsored by financial institutions, totaling over MOP1 million.
During the ceremony, 642 lucky winners were selected and will be notified of their prizes by phone.
