China mum goes to hospital for stomach issues, unexpectedly gives birth to boy

A woman from central China rode her electric bike to the hospital to address a stomach problem after lunch, only to be informed later that she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy just an hour later.
The remarkable incident, which became a trending topic on mainland social media, unfolded in Ezhou, Hubei province, on June 16, as reported by Jimu News.
The woman, surnamed Li, experienced discomfort in her belly after lunch, attributing it to overeating. However, when the pain persisted, Li decided to ride her electric bike alone to a small hospital at 2pm, according to the report.
While undergoing an ultrasound examination, Li鈥檚 abdominal pain intensified. She soon began experiencing regular uterine contractions and her amniotic fluid broke.
In response, the hospital promptly organised an obstetrics team to assist Li. At 3.22pm, she delivered a baby boy weighing 2.5kg through natural labour.

Following the birth, the hospital transferred Li to a municipal health centre for further observation.
Li expressed her shock upon learning of her pregnancy, stating: 鈥淲hen the doctors told me I was pregnant, I was completely perplexed.鈥
She admitted to not noticing the absence of her period, as her menstruation had always been irregular.
Li and her husband have a six-year-old son and had not planned for more children. She assured that they had been careful with contraception.
Despite gaining some weight in recent months, Li did not experience any typical pregnancy symptoms.

鈥淚 did not have any morning sickness, which I had during my first pregnancy,鈥 Li explained. 鈥淯naware of my pregnancy this time, I frequently rode my electric bike, but fortunately, the baby is healthy 鈥 this shows his strong vitality.鈥
Li鈥檚 husband, who was working in another city, returned to Ezhou upon receiving a call from the hospital to care for her and their newborn.
Stories of women discovering their pregnancies just before childbirth often capture the attention of social media in China.
For instance, in March, a blogger from Jiangsu shared her experience of giving birth to a son merely a day after learning she was pregnant.
In January, a woman in eastern China, previously diagnosed as sterile due to a womb syndrome, delivered a boy just four hours after discovering her pregnancy.
