Hyderabad: In a transformative push for modern agriculture, farmers were urged to adopt nano urea and nano DAP鈥攊nnovative products introduced by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO)鈥攖o boost crop yields while reducing costs and environmental impact.
Speaking at a State-level awareness meeting organised by IFFCO at Adobe Hotel in Hyderabad, Peddireddy Chengal Reddy, National President of the Farmers’ Associations Federation, emphasised the potential of these nano fertilisers in revolutionising farming practices.
Reddy highlighted the limitations of conventional fertilisers, stating that chemical-heavy methods introduced during the Green Revolution, though effective in raising yields, had resulted in long-term soil degradation and health concerns. In contrast, IFFCO鈥檚 nano urea and nano DAP offer a sustainable alternative by delivering nutrients directly to crops with minimal wastage.
鈥淭hese products require less investment but yield higher returns, making them a boon for farmers,鈥 Reddy said. He called for widespread awareness campaigns and advisory centres to guide farmers in the effective use of nano fertilisers.
IFFCO senior official Krupa Shankar elaborated on the advantages of nano fertilisers. Unlike conventional urea and DAP, which often do not fully reach the crops and contribute to soil and water pollution, nano urea and nano DAP are applied through spraying or drip irrigation, enabling direct absorption through crop leaves. This precision reduces fertiliser use, minimises environmental harm, and enhances productivity.
Shankar also announced that IFFCO is introducing drones to facilitate the application of nano products.
