Chelsea Agree Terms With Borussia Dortmund To Acquire Teen Sensation Jamie Gittens: Report

Chelsea are set to strengthen their attacking options with the signing of England Under-21 winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports on Saturday.
Sky Sports reports that the two clubs—both currently competing at the Club World Cup in the United States—have reached an agreement for the 20-year-old. The deal is believed to be worth up to €65 million (£55 million, $76 million).
Gittens, who previously spent time in Chelsea’s youth academy before moving to Manchester City’s setup, later signed with Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Now, he is poised for a return to west London.
The young winger has agreed to a seven-year contract with Chelsea and is expected to undergo a medical imminently. However, he will not be eligible to feature in the remainder of the Club World Cup, having already appeared as a substitute for Dortmund against Fluminense, rendering him cup-tied under FIFA rules.
During his time in Germany, Gittens made 107 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals—12 of which came last season across the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
Winger Reinforcements After Missed Sancho Deal
Chelsea have been in the market for wide attackers this summer, particularly after deciding against making Jadon Sancho’s loan move from Manchester United permanent.
Additionally, Mykhailo Mudryk remains provisionally suspended by the English FA following a failed drug test, further emphasizing the need for reinforcements.
Gittens becomes Chelsea’s fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of striker Liam Delap, midfielder Dario Essugo, and defender Mamadou Sarr. The Blues are also set to welcome 18-year-old Palmeiras sensation Estevão Willian after his Club World Cup duties conclude.
Chelsea remain active in the transfer market and are targeting a versatile forward. Brighton’s Joao Pedro is among their top targets, although Brighton have already rejected two bids—one reportedly from Newcastle.
Other forwards under consideration include Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus. The club has also not ruled out adding another defender before the window closes.
