Pop sensation Charli XCX has had an extraordinary year with Brat, her most successful album to date, which has reshaped the cultural scene, making everyone eager to see what trend she’ll spark next.
Charli’s fans have always had faith in her flair for music, art, and fashion, and now it seems, cinema too, as her secret social media profile was accidentally revealed. Indeed, the 365 hitmaker has a covert Letterboxd account (itscharlibb) where she pens film critiques and has logged over 100 movies thus far.
Ever since word spread about her clandestine page, the star has attracted over 200k followers and has taken to TikTok to divulge more about this aspect of her life. While chatting about her latest film indulgences, one movie received her glowing 5-star endorsement – the 2013 comedy The Bling Ring.
In her TikTok clip, Charli said: “I feel like it feels more culturally relevant every single time that I rewatch it. When I watch this film, it feels like I’m reading a salacious gossip magazine, which I kind of feel like is the entire point.
“Also, I think the fashion is obviously back, like all the wardrobes in this movie kind of look like Addison’s (Addison Rae) closet. It’s giving high fashion.”
The Bling Ring is a crime comedy flick helmed by Sofia Coppola, centred on a real-life group of girls infamous for their criminal escapades. Inspired by the Vanity Fair piece The Suspects Wore Louboutins, the movie tracks fame-hungry teens as they use the internet to target and rob the opulent homes of celebrities, reports the Mirror US.
Emma Watson appears in a fresh role, alongside stars like Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, and Leslie Mann, with her character drawing on the real Alexis Haines from the notorious Bling Ring. A highlight of the film is its banging soundtrack, featuring big names of the era with tunes like Frank Ocean’s then-unheard Super Rich Kids, Kanye West’s Power, and 212 by Azealia Banks.
Charli isn’t missing out on the latest cinematic gems either; she’s already given her take on the new Danny Boyle film 28 Days Later, despite it just premiering. The singer squeezed in a cinema visit to catch the 2025 post-apocalyptic horror before hitting the stage at Wembley Stadium.
She shared her thoughts: “I actually watched this in between sound check and performing at Dua Lipa’s show. I just needed to run across the road and see this. Danny Boyle is back.”
The film that’s got Charli talking, The Bling Ring, set amidst the glitz of LA’s celebrity culture, is now up for grabs on Apple TV and Amazon Prime in the UK.
