Central station versus museum

Central station versus museum

Dear Editor,

Two contesting parties at the upcoming elections have outlined plans for the development and transformation of the tumble-down and wasted D鈥橴rban Park.

One party proposes a grand central station to deal with the ever evolving and present congestion and traffic woes on our roadways, particularly the city.

The other proposes a state-of-the-art museum (Guyana Standard July 4).

Outlining plans on the concept and workings of the central station in a recent interview by the party, the concept seemed practical as one way in dealing with the road congestion and traffic woes. The plan spoke of traffic moving from two outward points converging at a central station from where commuters can then be transported into the city, thereby easing some of the congestion.

On the other hand, the museum, while good, is overshadowed by the pressing need to find more practical solutions to a congested city brought on by the influx of vehicles of all types.

The central station proposal is practical and offers a different solution to a longstanding issue. I think this is what the use of Park should be converted to.

Yours faithfully,

Shamshun Mohamed
