Celebrating the Fourth of July? Here's where to find holiday fun in the Berkshires

The Fourth of July will be celebrated on Friday, July 4, with fireworks, parades and other observances to mark America’s independence.

Thursday, July 3

鈥 The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum will host a historic reenactment of Susan B. Anthony鈥檚 July 4, 1876, centennial speech, “The Declaration of the Rights of Women of the United States,” at 6:30 p.m. on the Town Common. The event begins with readings from the Declaration of Independence.

鈥 Parade Committee hosts a free concert featuring the Greater Kensington String Band and WhoaPhat Brass Band from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Common, 100 First St. Rain location: First United Methodist Church, 55 Fenn St.

Friday, July 4

鈥 Fireworks display over Stockbridge Bowl following the 8 p.m. James Taylor concert at Tanglewood.

North Adams

鈥 Fireworks following the 5:30 p.m. SteepleCats baseball game at Joe Wolfe Field, 310 State St., at approximately 9:30 p.m.

鈥 Berkshire Health Systems鈥 Fourth of July 5K at 9 a.m. from 500 Wahconah St., following the downtown parade route, finishing at Wahconah Park.

鈥 Fourth of July Parade, “Young at Heart,” 10 a.m., rain or shine, from the intersection of South and East/West Housatonic Streets to North Street and ending at Wahconah Park.

鈥 Baseball and fireworks at Wahconah Park. The Berkshire Adult Baseball League hosts a free game between the Great Barrington Millers and the Berkshire Bandits at 6:30 p.m. Gates open to the public at 6 p.m. Fireworks following the game or at dusk.

鈥 Reading of Frederick Douglass鈥 speech, 鈥淲hat to the Slave is the Fourth of July?鈥 10 a.m., Alden Pavilion, behind Shaw Memorial Library, 312 Main St.

Stockbridge

鈥 “We Hold These Truths” presented at Norman Rockwell Museum, 9 Glendale Road, in partnership with The Guthrie Center. Events include a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at 1 p.m., and musical performances by folk singer Doug Mishkin from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and Annie and Abe Guthrie following the reading. Reading and music are free and open to all.

West Stockbridge

鈥 Reading of Frederick Douglass鈥 speech, 鈥淲hat to the Slave is the Fourth of July?鈥 11 a.m., TurnPark Art Space, 2 Moscow Road.

Williamstown

鈥 Hometown Parade, 11 a.m., Southworth Street to Spring Street.

鈥 Free community hot dog cookout, 11:30 a.m., Walden Street.

鈥 Brass-O-Mania concert, noon, Post Office steps.

鈥 Founding documents come to life, presented by Williamstown Theatre Festival, Williams College, Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum, and Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, 1 p.m., Sawyer Library, Williams College.

鈥 View the founding documents, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Sawyer Library, Williams College.

鈥 Fireworks, 9 p.m., Taconic Golf Club, grounds open at 6 p.m. No dogs or high heels.

Sunday, July 6

鈥 Parade Committee Car Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McKay Street parking lot.
