CEA, IIT Roorkee Sign MoU To Advance Clean Energy Innovation & Research

New Delhi, July 2 (KNN) The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), under the Ministry of Power, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing across India’s electricity and energy sectors.

The MoU, signed on July 1, 2025, aims to strengthen technical capabilities and foster innovation to support the country鈥檚 clean energy transition and net-zero ambitions.

As part of the partnership, CEA personnel will gain access to IIT Roorkee鈥檚 short-term projects and online courses to upgrade their technical skills.

The collaboration will focus on joint studies in critical areas such as electricity planning, hydropower and pumped storage, renewable energy integration, power system flexibility, and distributed generation.

Broader research themes include decarbonisation, water neutrality, energy efficiency, and frameworks for a just energy transition.

Emerging technologies鈥攕uch as green hydrogen, electric mobility, energy storage systems, biomass co-firing, and geothermal energy鈥攈ave been identified as key areas for joint exploration.

The MoU also covers efforts to develop standards for electric vehicles and battery recycling, and initiatives aimed at improving power quality, reliability, emission monitoring, and climate resilience of energy infrastructure.

Data sharing, joint use of research facilities, and publication of findings will be conducted under agreed confidentiality protocols.
