Off to Benidorm this summer? A savvy Brit has issued a warning about alleged “dodgy taxis” in the popular Spanish resort. Known as @harrytokky, Harry regularly posts Benidorm -related content on TikTok and recently shared a “warning,” for fellow tourists about so-called “fake taxis” that could end up being just a “random stranger’s car,” leaving you stranded far from your desired destination. In his TikTok video, Harry offered travel advice on which taxis are safe to use and which ones to steer clear of to ensure a trouble-free holiday in the party hotspot. He advised that “in Benidorm there’s only one type of taxi that you should be getting into,” describing them as “white cars with a blue stripe down the middle”. Harry added that these legitimate taxis typically “have a light on the top of the roof,” which will be either green or red. “If they’re red, the taxi is in use,” but if the light is green, it’s ready for passengers. He assured viewers that these taxis will “take you to your destination nice and safe,” unlike the “fake taxis” he warns against. Harry concluded: “So guys, if you’re coming out to Benidorm, they are the only taxis that you should be looking out for because you don’t want to get into some random stranger’s car”, as they might not take you where you need to go. One commenter queried: “What about Uber? The last time I was there, I used Uber from Benidorm old town to the airport; it was a regular black car”. Others echoed that they’d successfully used Uber during their stay, but some admitted they’d “struggled” and “couldn’t get the app to work”. A fellow Benidorm visitor suggested trying “the Pide app,”, describing it as “really easy”. Harry concurred: “I totally agree with you. I should’ve mentioned that”. Another user shared that they’d relied on the Pide app for their entire Benidorm trip, praising its “fantastic service”. For a safe bet, tourists can opt for Radio Taxi Benidorm, a reputable local taxi firm that can be booked over the phone. Their cabs are easily identifiable by a distinctive “blue stripe”. In the comments section, one individual advised checking for this blue stripe to ensure the taxi is genuine. It’s worth noting that during peak season, securing a taxi at the ranks might be more difficult. To prioritise safety, some recommend asking your hotel to book a taxi on your behalf, guaranteeing its authenticity. Alternatively, you can request a restaurant to call a taxi for you, saving you from searching the streets. Before choosing a taxi company, it’s also a good idea to research their Google rating and do your due diligence online.
