Experts have named special tariffs which could cut household energy bills by hundreds of pounds. People wanting to cut costs are being encouraged to consider off-peak tariffs. This allows them to take advantage of cheaper overnight and early-morning energy prices. This is usually between 10pm and 6am. Experts say the average household could save as much as 拢400 a year by using their tumble dryer, one of the most expensive appliances to run, at this times. Many suppliers offer Economy 7 or other off-peak tariffs for savvy households able to use appliances late at night or early in the morning. These include: Join our Free Money Saving WhatsApp community for the latest updates Energy expert Gordon Wallis, from Your NRG, said: “Tumble dryers are one of the most expensive household appliances to run. “But if you鈥檙e on an Economy 7 or similar time-of-use tariff, running your dryer overnight can cut your costs by up to 50%, potentially saving you hundreds over the course of a year. “Drying clothes indoors becomes a necessity in winter, especially for those without outdoor space or proper ventilation. 鈥淏ut if you鈥檙e not using a heated airer or drying rack, the tumble dryer quickly becomes one of the biggest contributors to your energy bill.鈥 Gordon continued: “The grid experiences less pressure overnight, so suppliers can offer cheaper energy. 鈥淭aking advantage of that pricing structure just makes sense, especially if you鈥檙e running large appliances like washing machines, dishwashers or tumble dryers. 鈥淵ou don鈥檛 have to wake up at 3am to save money. “Just use your machine鈥檚 timer setting, that way you can dry your clothes at 2am, but empty the drum at 7am before work.”
