BREAKING Major incident at Piccadilly Circus as car seen flipped after hitting landmark

Two people have been rushed to hospital after a car crashed into Piccadilly Circus roundabout in central London and flipped over.

Emergency services raced to the scene in the early hours of Sunday after the horror smash which saw the motor plough into the memorial fountain at the centre of the iconic landmark.

All roads leading to the junction have been closed off after a huge police cordon was erected around the site. Dramatic pictures from the scene show the wrecked black car on its roof with its front end crumpled.

A large police presence remains at the site as officers investigate the incident.

Two people were treated on the scene by paramedics, the the London Ambulance Service said. One was rushed to a major trauma centre to receive urgent medical care.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 鈥淲e were called at 5.25am today (29 June) to reports of a road traffic collision on Piccadilly, W1J.

鈥淲e sent a number of resources, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

“We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London鈥檚 Air Ambulance. Our first paramedic arrived on scene in less than four minutes.

鈥淲e treated two people. We took one patient to a major trauma centre and the other patient to a local hospital.鈥
