Shane Lynch has confessed that he “hated” another Boyzone member, with their animosity dating back to childhood. The Dublin -native singer and former car mechanic opened up about his strained relationship with Keith Duffy , who he knew before Boyzone’s formation in 1993 when Shane was only 17. Despite being acquainted, the relationship between them was far from friendly. Dropping this bombshell on the Liam Tuffs podcast , Shane admitted: “Me and Keith Duffy – we hated each other. I knew Keith all my life, nine, ten, eleven years old. We lived a couple of streets down from each other. And when I say hated each other, there was a massive miscommunication between me and him, because we were never friends. “We were just visual, I saw that guy, he has a particular look that I don’t like, and it is that immaturity, thinking, ‘look at that f***ing guy’, but really, realistically, when you go and talk to someone, it breaks all of those stupidy things you think in your mind.” He further dissected the root of his aversion to Keith’s appearance, adding: “Keith was the most, he was like an Adonis, he always had the streaks in his hair, the blonde streaks, his mum is a hairdresser so he always looks really slick, his dad was in the rag trade, so he had the denim jackets and the jeans and the boots and stuff. “He was beautiful – he was absolutely beautiful. But I was one dirty little scruff. I was this guy who just loved motorbikes, loved BMXs, I just loved an oily bike ride.. “Almost like you see in the streets today of the UK and around the world almost, those guys, wheelies up and down the street, no helmets, I was that kid.” He shared how he hailed from leafy suburbia, often riding his bike illegally to reach the fields. While not intending to wreak havoc, he said that he and Keith were just “worlds apart”. The tides turned when Boyzone was formed, with Keith and Shane joining Stephen Gately, Ronan Keating, and Mikey Graham to rise to superstardom, selling 25 million records by 2013. Despite early friction with Keith within the band, Shane expressed: “We got there in the end, thank God. I love the fella, 32 years into the game.” Their bond, albeit unlikely at first, grew stronger over more than three decades, even stepping beyond music. Last year saw the pair, alongside Westlife’s Brian McFadden, become shareholders of Chorley FC. As they ventured into football club ownership, the famous singers aimed to become “new adopted sons” of the semi-professional Lancashire club.
