Vijay Sethupathi’s son, Surya Vijay Sethupathi, marked his debut as a lead in the sports action drama, Phoenix. Directed by stunt master-turned-director Anl Arasu, the film released in theatres today, July 4. And guess what? Tamil heartthrob Thalapathy Vijay took out time from his jam-packed schedule to watch the film.
The Ghilli actor couldn’t hold back but shared his opinion and well wishes with the young star. In a recent post shared on X, Phoenix’s director, Anl Arasu, dropped a picture of himself alongside Vijay and Surya. Sharing the post, he revealed, “Bloody sweet! That’s the vibe after Thalapathy Vijay sir watched #Phoenix and shared his MERSAL MAXX words! The Phoenix is flying on FIRE now!”

Resharing the same photograph on his X handle, Surya Sethupathi penned an emotional note to express his gratitude towards Thalapathy Vijay’s sweet gesture. “Thank you @actorvijay sir. Coming to Anl Arasu’s directorial Phoenix, the sports action drama promises a gripping narrative with a blend of sports, action and drama. Besides Surya, the film features Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Varsha, Munnar Ramesh, Naveen, Rishi, Nandha Saravanan, Aadukalam Murugadoss, J. Vignesh, Sreejith Ravi, Sampath Raj, Devadarshini, Muthukumar, Dileepan, Ajay Ghosh, Harish Uthaman, Abi Nakshathra, Aadukalam Naren and many others in supporting roles.
On the big screens, Thalapathy Vijay will be seen for one last time in Jana Nayagan before foraying into the political world. He will portray a menacing police officer in the Tamil-language political action drama. The H Vinoth’s directorial also boasts an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Monish Blessy, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Teejay and others in pivotal roles.
Blending intense action sequences with a socially driven narrative, the film is backed by Jagadish Palanisamy, Venkat K Narayana, and Lohith NK under the banners of KVN Productions. The film is eyeing a Pongal 2026 release.
After this film, Thalapathy Vijay will be contesting in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He is the face of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
