The police have arrested an employee of a bar attached to a Tasmac outlet near Sulur in Coimbatore district on charge of murdering a Salem native on June 22.
M. Dharmar, 27, a native of Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district, was arrested on Thursday for murdering K. Kavinraj, 25, of Kaveripuram near Mettur in Salem district.
The police said Kavinraj had been residing in a rented accommodation at Sengodagounden Pudur near Sulur. He had been working in a private company at Kurumbapalayam after completing a technical course.
According to the police, Kavinraj visited a bar attached to a Tasmac outlet near his residence on June 22 evening. He allegedly caused a ruckus under the influence of alcohol and fought with a few other bar goers.
Dharmar, who worked at the bar, attempted to prevent Kavinraj from causing disturbance to other customers. However, Kavinraj picked a quarrel with Dharmar. As the quarrel ensued, Dharmar grabbed a piece of stone and smashed Kavinraj on the rear side of his head. He also allegedly stepped onto Kavinraj鈥檚 neck and stamped him as he fell down, said the police.
After the fight, a few tipplers took Kavinraj to his residence and left him there. His friends found him dead when they checked on him around 11.45 a.m. the next day. The Sulur police rushed to the house after receiving an alert. They shifted the body to a government hospital for post-mortem, suspecting that he died of inordinate intake of alcohol, the police said.
However, the post-mortem examination revealed that Kavinraj had an injury on the rear side of head and internal injuries in his neck. The police arrested Dharmar on Thursday, based on a complaint lodged by Kavinraj鈥檚 father.
