A CATTLE farmer in the Baiyer area of Western Highlands Province is calling on the Government to support his cattle farm.
Bapona cattle owner, Tom Wete said this last Friday in Mt Hagen while sending letters to responsible government department for support.
Mr Wete, who has more than 70 cattle said he needs government support to construct a range and other developments.
The cattle farmer said this after the Livestock Development Corporation gave notice to local settlers in Baiyer in April this year to vacate the state land, Portion 157.
鈥淚鈥檓 against the Livestock Development Corporations plan to look after cattle in Baiyer because we have cattle farming already and the government must support this existing farm,鈥 he said.
鈥淚鈥檓 currently farming cattle in Baiyer on the said portion of land and the government must come in to support and partner with me rather that starting a new cattle farm.鈥
Mr Wete said he has written to the Minister for Livestock, the chairman of Livestock Development Corporation and police to consider his request.
Baiyer has a huge mass of state land which have not been developed over the years, and the Livestock Development Corporation wants to raise cattle on this land.
