Baba Yara Stadium Set for Rehabilitation Ahead of CAF Competitions – Ashanti Regional Minister Assures

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has lauded Asante Kotoko’s preparation efforts ahead of their highly anticipated clash with rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2025 President’s Cup.

During a visit to the team’s training grounds, Dr. Amoakohene expressed confidence in the readiness of the players and technical team, stating that they are fully prepared to deliver a performance that will make the region proud.

“They are ready, and from all indications, even if the match were played today, they would make us proud. I want to take this opportunity to thank the technical team for holding the fort and constantly preparing the boys for games of this nature,” the Minister said.

Dr. Amoakohene also emphasized that the support being offered extends beyond the playing body to include the technical bench, encouraging unity and shared motivation across the team.

“The support we are providing is not just for the players, but also for the technical team. We want them all to feel equally motivated, work together as one unit, and secure victory on Sunday.”

On the sidelines of the Ashanti Festival Games, the Minister joined the Sports Minister to inspect key sports infrastructure in the region, notably the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. He revealed that the facility has received government attention and assured the public that rehabilitation works will soon begin.

“We toured some of the sporting facilities in the Ashanti Region with the Sports Minister. I am happy to report that we have received assurances that the Baba Yara Stadium will be rehabilitated. We are very hopeful that by the time CAF competitions begin, significant improvements would have been made.”

Dr. Amoakohene reiterated that the Baba Yara Stadium, which is set to host Kotoko’s matches in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup, is now a priority for both the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“The Baba Yara Stadium now has the full attention of the RCC and the Sports Ministry. We are committed to working together to ensure it is put in top shape to support our clubs on the continental stage.”

The President’s Cup match between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak is scheduled for this weekend and promises to be a thrilling encounter between Ghana’s two most decorated clubs.
