The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to a diverse and accomplished group of individuals from across the globe, acknowledging their significant contributions to filmmaking and storytelling. This year鈥檚 invitees come from 60 countries and territories outside the United States, highlighting the Academy鈥檚 ongoing efforts to expand and diversify its global membership.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang shared in a joint statement, 鈥淲e are thrilled to welcome this esteemed class of artists, technologists and professionals into the Academy. This year鈥檚 class embodies the diversity and global breadth of today鈥檚 film community, and their inclusion will continue to enrich the Academy鈥檚 mission and work.鈥
Those who accept the invitation will either join one of the Academy鈥檚 19 official branches or be inducted as Associates, a special category created for those who have made notable contributions to the industry but will not hold Oscar voting rights.
Among the newly invited members is Kamal Haasan, the iconic Indian actor and filmmaker, who was last seen in Thug Life, helmed by Mani Ratnam. Though the film had high expectations, it opened to mixed reviews, with critics citing an underwhelming narrative and weak character arcs. The movie also underperformed at the box office.
The actor, known for championing content-rich cinema, is currently busy with two exciting ventures. He will next be seen in Thama, a romantic horror comedy under the Maddock Horror Universe banner, slated for release in October 2025. Additionally, Ayushmann is filming an untitled spy comedy alongside Sara Ali Khan, produced by Karan Johar and directed by Aakash Kaushik.
