Assam polls will see a fight, says state Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gurav Gogoi said that Congress has started preparation for next year鈥檚 assembly election. He said that time is short but there will be fights.Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi was last month made APCC president. Gaurav while talking to media persons in Guwahati on Thursday said, 鈥淲e are working across the 126 assembly constituencies, strengthening our organisational bases.鈥滺e said, 鈥淭ime is short but there will be a fight. The voter list is faulty, several people who voted in Lok Sabha in a particular booth were not able to vote during the Panchayat polls.鈥滳ongress was voted out of power in 2016 and ever since then it has not won major elections in Assam. BJP with its strong organisational bases is in power for the second consecutive term. Assam is slated to go to polls early next year.Already Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma since last couple of months is attacking Gaurav Gogoi targeting his visit to Pakistan some years back.Live EventsGogoi has been touring different parts of Assam and has sharply criticised the rise of syndicate-controlled operations in Barak Valley, accusing the ruling dispensation of 鈥渁llowing鈥 crime and corruption to flourish in place of genuine development.Gogoi had alleged illegal networks controlling the trade of stone, sand, and supari (areca nut) have overtaken local economic activity 鈥 all 鈥渦nder the government鈥檚 watch.”He further alleged that the inclusion of ministers鈥 families in beneficiary lists betrays public trust and demonstrates how state resources are being misused.The political landscape of Assam stands changed after almost 27 years as the Election commission of India has published the Delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies in 2023. The assembly polls of 2026 will be the first assembly election with delimited constituencies. The first electoral roll after delimitation of assemblies and parliamentary constituencies was carried out and it has found around 2,43,02,460 electors in the state. The Total Electors stood at 2,43,02,460, Male electors accounted for 1,22,12,483 while female Electors stood at 1,20,89,569 and third Gender was 408.
