Are You Really Cleaning Your Floors? Dyson鈥檚 New Study Says Maybe Not

Think your daily mopping routine is keeping your home truly clean? According to Dyson鈥檚 Global Wet Cleaning Study, the reality might be quite the opposite. The company recently unveiled its first major study on wet cleaning habits, frustrations, and tools and the results are eye-opening. From outdated cleaning methods to hidden hygiene risks, here鈥檚 all you need to know about Dyson鈥檚 Global Wet Cleaning Study. India, where 94.5% of homes have hard floors like tile, stone, or wood, is among the most floor-conscious nations in the world. Nearly half of Indian respondents clean their floors every day, which is over twice the global average. But according to Dyson, the tools we use–buckets, mops, cloths might be spreading bacteria rather than removing it. Dyson’s design engineer, Tim Hare, shared one particularly eye-opening finding with Times Now Tech: 鈥淥nly 49% of people in India change the water in their mop bucket when moving between rooms. So even if your floor looks clean, our research shows you could be dragging a thin film of dirt and bacteria across your home.鈥 The study also found that one in three Indians feel wet cleaning is too time-consuming, and 28% find it physically exhausting. Frustrations like poor edge cleaning, slippery floors, and trouble reaching tight corners are common. Yet, only a third believe traditional tools like sponges or cloths are actually effective. Interestingly, while 62% of Indian respondents believe vacuum cleaners with wet cleaning functionality are the best solution, there鈥檚 still limited awareness and adoption of such tools. To address this, Dyson has introduced innovative solutions like the Dyson WashG1, a wet floor cleaner designed to pick up wet and dry messes in one go. Its dual rollers and separation system keep dirty water and debris apart, and it even cleans itself, no more messy mop heads. Also on offer is the Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine, a cordless vacuum cleaner with a special wet roller head.
