The Fourth of July holiday, also known as Independence Day, celebrates the Second Continental Congress’ unanimous adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. A year later, according to the Library of Congress, a spontaneous celebration in Philadelphia marked the anniversary of American independence.But observations weren’t commonplace until after the War of 1812, when they quickly took off. Congress was late to the party, finally passing a law making Independence Day a federal holiday on June 28, 1870.The Fourth of July marks the birth of American independence and as a federal holiday, the Fourth means many government offices, banks and some businesses will be closed. While hours vary by location, most locations should be open on July 4. However, hours can vary depending on which location you visit.All Costco stores are closed on the Fourth of July, the company’s website says. Locations will reopen Saturday during normal business hours.Aldi will be open on the Fourth of July, but with limited hours of operation, according to the company’s website. Many stores across the U.S. are known for being open late or for 24 hours. However, specific hours vary for each store.
