Amity School Steelband Festival returns to Kingston Seawall today

Beginning at 14:00 hrs today, the iconic Kingston Seawall Esplanade will come alive with the vibrant sounds of steelpan as students from across the country gather for the Amity School Steelband Festival that is organised annually by the Ministry of Education鈥檚 Unit of Allied Arts.

Under the theme, 鈥淩hythm of One Guyana,鈥 performances will come from six standout steelbands representing West Demerara Secondary, St Stanislaus College, the Bishops鈥 High, President鈥檚 College, New Amsterdam Secondary, and the all-youth community group called Buxton Pride.

These young pannists, most of them still in school, will showcase the musical skills they鈥檝e developed throughout the academic year in what is not a competition, but a collaboration, according to Joel Gonsalves, Education Officer with responsibility for music.
