Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false. The image is altered to add the communal tone. The original image shows the students being taught Sanskrit in a Madrasa in Uttar Pradesh. We were led to a post by news agency ANI from 2018 which featured a similar image. However, the blackboard did not feature the same contents as the viral image. This made it clear that the viral image was altered. As per ANI, the image was of the Darul Uloom Husseini Madrasa located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The news agency noted that among other subjects, being taught at the madrasa, Sanskrit was also taught. The principal of the madrasa told the news agency in 2018, “Its a modern madrasa under UP Education board and subjects like English, Hindi, Science, Maths & Sanskrit are taught here. They are also taught Arabic.” (sic.)Several other news organisations such as NDTV, Business Standard, Outlook Magazine also covered the news about this institution in UP in 2018.
