Almost 3,400 companies registered last year – report

Almost 3,400 companies registered with the Malta Business Registry (MBR) last year, according to a report issued Thursday. Most were private companies, with 16 public companies and one European company also registered, the MBR annual report for 2024 shows. The MBR carried out almost 1,500 inspections to verify beneficial ownership information, it said. Highlighting its digitisation efforts in a statement announcing the report, the MBR called last year “a significant step” in going paperless, with over 200,000 documents registered online. The entity’s revenue maintained similar levels from the preceding year, hovering at around €17.4 million. Its operating surplus dropped by around one million euros compared to 2023, falling to just under €7.6 million. The MBR’s total surplus was around €8.2 million, slightly less than the year before. Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said the MBR was “introducing tools to provide a holistic ecosystem to our thriving business community”, while providing the “ideal springboard for Malta as a nation to look ahead and build today’s tomorrow”. MBR CEO and registrar Geraldine Spiteri Lucas called the entity a “beacon of leadership and transformation”, and a cornerstone safeguarding the interests of Malta’s jurisdiction.
